Send Weekly Parent Summaries

Get everyone on the same page; enable and customize weekly summary emails sent directly to parents.

The Parent Weekly Summary allows you to send a consolidated email digest to parents every week. This digest highlights key patterns like Hall Pass usage, behavior trends, and positive momentum through Points. By enabling this feature, you provide families with proactive visibility into student activity with nearly zero admin effort.

Permission level: Admin | Owner

This feature is only available to customers with a Plus or Premium subscription plan.

You can activate the weekly digest to ensure parents receive regular snapshots of student signals. This process involves enabling the feature and configuring the specific data points you wish to share.

Overview of Weekly Summaries

The weekly summary feature connects parent contact information on a per student basis, and sends that address a weekly digest of that student's activity throughout the week. Ideally, these emails keep families informed and aligned on their students' activities at school, minimizing surprises later.

This email update begins sending at 10 pm PST on Saturday from "noreply@minga.services', so families are informed going into their next school week.

Enable and customize summaries

You can activate the weekly digest to ensure parents receive regular snapshots of student signals. This process involves enabling the feature and configuring the specific data points you wish to share.

 

Step-by-step guide

  1. Navigate to Settings from the primary (left) navigation menu. This is located in the main sidebar of your Minga dashboard.

  2. Click the Settings tab in the secondary (top) navigation bar.

  3. Select Communication & Notifications.

  4. Toggle Enable Weekly Summaries to the on position.

  5. Activating this starts the automated weekly delivery to parent email addresses.

  6. Click Manage to customize the email content. This opens the customization menu, where you can select specific data to share and customize the messaging.

  7. Click Save to finish.

Tip: Preview the parent summary email before saving to ensure your customizations and variables appear correctly.

Once saved, Minga will begin sending consolidated weekly digests to parents based on your selected configuration.

Information Toggles

You can toggle the types of information you wish to share, such as Hall Pass frequency, Points earned, or behavior updates.

Messaging Variables

Use variables within the message editor to automatically pull in student and parent names. This makes the communication feel personal and direct.

Variables available include:

  • ${studentNames} = Student name(s) - formatted as comma-separated list (e.g., 'Jane Smith and John Doe')

  • ${schoolName} = School name

  • ${schoolEmail} = Minga admin email

Troubleshooting

Parents are not recieving the weekly email summary.
If parents are not receiving emails:

  1. Confirm that Enable Weekly Summaries is toggled on in the Communication & Notifications menu.

  2. Verify that parent email addresses are correctly synced with your SIS or attached to the student profiles.

  3. Additionally, parents may have blocked the sending address that the emails come from.

FAQs

Can I choose which student data points are included in the weekly email?
You can choose which data points are included by clicking the Manage button within the Communication & Notifications settings and toggling specific module data to be included, like Points or Hall Passes.

How does Minga handle weekly summaries for siblings?
For parents/guardians with multiple students in the same school, when each student has the same parent email attached to their student profile, Minga will send all of their students' summaries in the same email.

Can I customize the date or time the weekly summary emails are sent?
Currently, this is not a feature we support.

Does the weekly summary replace real-time email or text notifications?
The weekly summary does not replace real-time notifications; it serves as a consolidated digest to complement existing immediate updates. It may, however, allow you to reassess the information being sent to parents via email or text notifications attached to behaviors, consequences, or automations.
