Setting up Direct Messaging

Direct Messaging in Minga is a powerful communication tool that allows teachers, students, and administrators to communicate seamlessly and efficiently. With customizable permissions, it ensures a safe and controlled environment for your school community.

This guide will walk you through configuring Direct Messaging settings and using this feature effectively.

 


 

What is Direct Messaging?

 

Direct Messaging allows users within Minga to send private or group messages, depending on the permissions set by your school. It can be customized to allow different levels of communication, such as:

  • Teacher to Student messages.
  • Student Leader to Staff communication for organizing events.
  • Admin to All Roles messaging for broader announcements.

Direct Messaging ensures quick and efficient communication while maintaining safety and moderation.

How to Configure Direct Messaging Settings

Permissions for Direct Messaging are flexible and can be tailored to your school's needs.

Step 1: Navigate to Settings

  1. Log in as an Owner.
  2. Go to the Settings tab in your Minga dashboard.

Step 2: Enable Direct Messaging

  • Locate the Direct Messaging section under the Settings tab.
  • By default, Direct Messaging is only enabled for Owners, Managers, Teachers, and Staff. 

Step 3: Customize Messaging Permissions

You can adjust permissions to determine who can message whom. Examples include:

  • Allow messaging between Students and Teachers/Staff/Owners/Managers
    Enable this option to let students message their teachers while keeping communication safe and structured.

  • Allow messaging between Student Leaders
    Activate this setting to facilitate communication among Student Leaders for event organization.

Step 4: Manage Specific User Permissions

  • If needed, you can remove Direct Messaging permissions for specific users by navigating to their profile and adjusting their messaging settings.

Step 5: Save Changes

Once you've adjusted the permissions, click Save to apply the settings.

If you need to, you can also remove Direct Messaging Permissions for specific users.

📣 The following setting will need to be enabled in order for teachers to direct message students from My Class and have the students respond:

Allow messaging between students
Allow messaging between student leaders and students
Allow messaging between student leaders


Using Direct Messaging

Once Direct Messaging is configured, users can easily send messages based on the set permissions.

For Teachers:

  1. Navigate to the My Class menu, and select one or more students.
  2. Under Search action, select Communication > Direct Messaging, and click next.
  3. Type your message, and hit send.

For Students:

  • Students can receive and respond to messages from their teachers, depending on the permissions set by the admin.
